Referendum, Cacciari: "I will vote five YES. Cancel the wretched Renzi policies on work"

Referendum, Cacciari: "I will vote five YES. Cancel the wretched Renzi policies on work"

"Yes, of course. I will go to the polls and vote five convinced YES votes, especially for the two referendums that cancel the Jobs Act ." Massimo Cacciari, former mayor of Venice, philosopher and well-known television personality , announced this to Affaritaliani.it . "It is certainly not with referendums that policies are set with yeses and buts. Referendums prevent a development of the discourse, being abrogative, which would be necessary. But I believe that a signal is needed with respect to the disastrous trend of Renzi's and the Centre-left's policies on work in recent decades . I fear that the quorum will not be reached, given that this referendum has certainly not been and is not even today at the centre of public attention and all this is beyond the will and ability of those who promoted the questions. Objectively, people have other things to think about."

Returning to work and Matteo Renzi's reforms of the Jobs Act, Cacciari explains: " We must make people understand that that was a general debacle, an unconditional cultural surrender to neo-liberal policies . It is not with signals that politics are built and reforms are made, obviously, but since June 8 and 9 there is this opportunity, let's try not to waste it, at least for those who think like me. It is clear that the challenge of the quorum is very difficult and I do not want to cast blame only on the organizers of the referendum or on the boycott of the Center-right, newspapers and television. People at this moment have other things to think about, between wars around the world and everything else. It is clear, however, that if we were to reach, for example, a voter turnout of 49% it would be a very strong and important signal, but if the voter turnout stopped at 20% it would be a shameful flop ", concludes the former mayor of Venice.
